Letter from the President of Pride Surveys

STARS (Students Taking A Right Stand) is our county-wide student assistance program or SAP.  STARS provides comprehensive services in the areas of drug and violence prevention, counseling and training.  We contract with the STARS non-profit agency for STARS Specialists to serve in the middle and high schools and the Alternative Learning Center.  Specialists work closely with trained Core Team members and administrators to coordinate program activities. STARS offers a variety of support groups at each site to help students with issues that interfere with learning.  These small groups meet weekly for a designated period of time, depending on need.  Participation in program services is voluntary with the exception of students returning from the ALC on probation following a zero tolerance offense who are required to be involved in STARS services.  In addition, STARS offers programs for parents/guardians, the Strengthening Families Program in conjunction with local service groups, and Lunch & Learn for area businesses.  The STARS organization is a United Way agency in Williamson County.
