Duke University Talent Identification Program The Duke University TIP program helps to identify and serve academically talented students in seventh grade by inviting them to participate in an above-level test of academic ability, the ACT college entrance exam, which is taken with local high school students. The most recent TCAP scores are used to determine eligibility for the program. Both state and national recognition ceremonies are held for higher-achieving students and certificates are presented. After testing, Duke continues to provide guides, handbooks, newsletters and other helpful information through high school for both parents and students. Visit www.tip.duke.edu for more information or contact Mary Farrell, GMS School Counselor, at 472-4506.

Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth The Johns Hopkins’ CTY in Baltimore, Maryland, identifies top academic students in eighth grade using scores from the most recent TCAP testing. By joining the Talent Search, students challenge themselves and learn more about their abilities by taking a college entrance examination, the SAT, with local high school students. After testing, students are provided with newsletters, catalogues of summer programming, and announcements of distance education courses during their high school career that can complement their regular school experience. Learn more about the program at www.cty.jhu.edu or contact Mary Farrell, GMS School Counselor, at 472-4506. |
