The Media Center is centrally located within the school and houses the print and non-print collection that supplements and enriches the academic curriculum. Computer terminals provide access to the Internet, online encyclopedias, Accelerated Reader program, Follett OPAC, etc. The Media Center continually promotes the enjoyment of literature and the use of informational skills through various programs and activities.

Guidance
Heritage Elementary has a full time counselor, Tim Hovdet, and a part time counselor, Stacy Landa.  The Guidance Program at Heritage Elementary School focuses on maintaining a healthy life style through character building. Heritage Elementary is part of the Williamson County Character Under Construction Initiative, which emphasizes a character trait per school month. The students participate each day in their eagle exercises to work on developing good character.

The school counselor also presents a developmental K-5 guidance program that is based on Williamson County, State of Tennessee, and National Curriculum Standards. The counselor sees classes in rotation.

Opportunities are provided for each grade level to have students meet with the counselor in small groups, which focus on common needs or concerns (divorce, death, social skills). In addition, individuals with private concerns are free to visit the counselor.

Student Support Services

Heritage services include three full-time resource teachers and many assistants, a full-time reading specialist, a speech and language pathologist, gifted consultant, school psychologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and a vision teacher.

Special Areas
Heritage has full time teachers for art, music, and physical education as well as part time teachers in each area.

Students attend art classes once a week. Children at each grade level create at least one painting project and one clay project a year. In addition to paint and clay, the students are exposed to a wide variety of different media, such as pastels, colored pencils, chalks, water colors, crayons, collage, and printing ink. We hold an annual art show at Heritage to showcase the students' work. Every child has at least one piece of art work on display. We also have an Artist for the Day each year and a fourth grade field trip to an art museum.

Heritage Physical Education Department's focus in grades K-2 includes space awareness, locomotive movements, rhythmic activities, sequences, cooperative behavior, fitness concepts, and sportsmanship. Grades 3-5 focus on skill building, strategies for games and sports, dance and rhythmic activities, healthy lifestyles, and sportsmanship.

The music program at Heritage Elementary School encompasses many aspects. Students learn about rhythm, melody, harmony, form, texture, composers, music history, musical styles, and musical theatre. They experience all of these through singing, playing instruments, movement, listening, discussion, video presentations and other technological resources. We also have a selected group of 4th and 5th graders who are a part of the HES Choir, which participates in school and area events.
