School History
Heritage Elementary School is nestled in the lovely country side of Thompson Station, in the southern part of Williamson County.  The school opened its doors on August 16, 1999.   The area has seen constant growth since then.   Now, in its eleventh year, the school serves Pre-K through 5th grade.  The school has approximately 840 students, 40 classroom teachers, 6 full time and 4 part time special area teachers, and 4 student support services teachers.  The staff, faculty, parents, and community of Heritage cooperatively work to fulfill the mission at Heritage Elementary School.

Before/After School Care
Before/After School Care is offered by the WCS School Aged Childcare Program.  Students in this program can participate in Homework Club, as well as weekly Spanish, Art, Music and Percussion sessions.  Parents can use this program on a weekly or on a drop-in basis.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Conferences are held in the fall and spring. Watch for more information from your child's teacher.

Parent Support Organization
Heritage P.T.O. Co-President are Roberta Fitcher and Erika Adams.  PTO meetings are held the second Tuesday of every other month.

Special Programs
Special programs offered at Heritage are: STAR Reading Program, Accelerated Reader Program, Choir (4th and 5th), Heritage Run Club, and F.L.I.P. (Friends Learning in Pairs) Program.

Library/Media Center
The Library/Media Center is staffed by a full time library media specialist and a library assistant.  The Media Center is centrally located within the school and houses the print and non-print collection that supplements and enriches the academic curriculum. Computer terminals provide access to the Internet, online encyclopedias, Accelerated Reader program, Follett OPAC, etc. The Media Center continually promotes the enjoyment of literature and the use of informational skills through various programs and activities.

Guidance
Heritage Elementary has a full time and a part time counselor.  The Guidance Program at Heritage Elementary School focuses on maintaining a healthy life style through character building. Heritage Elementary is part of the Williamson County Character Under Construction Initiative, which emphasizes a character trait per school month. The students participate each day in their eagle exercises to work on developing good character.

The school counselor also presents a developmental K-5 guidance program that is based on Williamson County, State of Tennessee, and National Curriculum Standards. The counselor sees classes in rotation.

Opportunities are provided for each grade level to have students meet with the counselor in small groups, which focus on common needs or concerns (divorce, death, social skills). In addition, individuals with private concerns are free to visit the counselor.

Student Support Services
Heritage services include four full-time resource teachers and ten assistants, a full-time reading specialist, a part time math specialist, a speech and language pathologist, gifted consultant, school psychologist, occupational therapist, and a physical therapist.

Special Areas
Heritage has full time teachers for art, music, and physical education as well as part time teachers in each area.

Students attend art classes once a week. Children at each grade level create at least one painting project and one clay project a year. In addition to paint and clay, the students are exposed to a wide variety of different media, such as pastels, colored pencils, chalks, water colors, crayons, collage, and printing ink. We hold an annual art show at Heritage to showcase the students' work. Every child has at least one piece of art work on display. We also have an Artist for the Day each year and a fourth grade field trip to an art museum.

Heritage Physical Education Department's focus in grades K-2 includes space awareness, locomotive movements, rhythmic activities, sequences, cooperative behavior, fitness concepts, and sportsmanship. Grades 3-5 focus on skill building, strategies for games and sports, dance and rhythmic activities, healthy lifestyles, and sportsmanship.

The music program at Heritage Elementary School encompasses many aspects. Students learn about rhythm, melody, harmony, form, texture, composers, music history, musical styles, and musical theatre. They experience all of these through singing, playing instruments, movement, listening, discussion, video presentations and other technological resources. We also have a selected group of 4th and 5th graders who are a part of the HES Choir, which participates in school and area events.

Partnerships
Heritage Elementary School strongly believes in partnerships between businesses and school. Each of these organizations assists in keeping our school an enjoyable place to learn by donating time, contributions, gifts and even professional development for our faculty and staff.

Site Based Management
Heritage is an Effective School involved in Site Based Decision Making. Our Building Leadership Team included teacher representatives from all areas of the school.  They work to make decisions relevant to the effective running of HES.
