School History
Centennial opened to students in August of 1996. The faculty and
administration of Centennial High School reflect the diversity and
richness of Williamson County. From all corners of the community, these
individuals represent a unique blend of background and expertise. They
strive to offer an unparalleled commitment, providing students with a
quality education that promises to make Centennial High School
synonymous with excellence.
The physical structure of Centennial High School reflects Williamson
County's commitment to innovation, technology, and education, offering
optimal education experiences in a state-of-the-art facility.
Structurally striking and aesthetically pleasing, this two-story plan
integrates technology with a positive learning environment that will
prepare students for life-long learning in the 21st Century.
The design and construction of Centennial High School foster
expectations for excellence. A user-friendly college and
career-counseling center is networked on-line to colleges and
universities. Twelve science laboratories allow for computer dissection
and extensive hands-on experimentation. Three fully networked computer
laboratories focus on business applications, computer literacy and
programming. In addition, a fully networked communications lab services
the technology broadcasting program, yearbook production and
newspaper/journalism. The building also features a computerized media
center and two technology classrooms that include computer and darkroom
capability. Each classroom offers computer/Internet hard/software
capabilities. All instructional environments focus on assisting and
expanding the learning potential of the student, creating safe
situations in which students may develop into educated, responsible
citizens of a global society.
Community
Williamson County's central location allows its residents to commute to
the myriad of higher and continuing education facilities located
throughout Middle Tennessee. Also located only 30 miles to the east is
Murfreesboro, giving Williamson County residents easy access to Middle
Tennessee State University. Vanderbilt, Belmont, Trevecca, and TSU are
closely located in nearby Nashville. Columbia State provides an
opportunity for students to articulate in various programs.
Franklin's parks include the Jim Warren City Parks, John D. Pinkerton
Park and the City Park at Fieldstone. Other parks in the county include
the 800-acre Fairview Nature Park, the 160-acre Crockett Park, Granny
White Park, and the Deerwood Arboretum.
Equestrian sports are popular in Williamson County, demonstrated in the
number of annual horse shows, The Steeplechase and Western rodeo. The
county is also home to a variety of top-quality golf courses, such as
The Legends, The Governor's Club, Forest Crossing, Country Club of
Franklin, and Spencer Creek.
Parent Support Organization
Centennial is fortunate to have a Parents' Support Organization
including the Parents' Association, the Athletic Boosters, the Band
Boosters, and the Choral Boosters.
Library/Media Center
The Library Center staff consists of two librarians and an assistant.
The hours of operation are from 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. The
library center provides an array of valuable resources for students and
teachers. Centennial High School subscribes to many local and national
newspapers, along with over thirty magazines.
Computers serve as integral part of the facility. Students use them to
access a computerized version of a card catalog adopted by most public
libraries in this area. Almost all of the computers in the school are
connected to the Internet through the WCS connection to the Internet.
Centennial High School has many CD-ROM encyclopedias and resources that
aid the students' research.
Academics
Departments include English, Foreign languages, Math, Science, Social
Studies, Wellness, P.E., JROTC, Fine Arts, Special Education, and
Technical Preparation (Communication) and Engineering clusters, and
Marketing & Business Education/Technology.
Counseling
The Centennial Counseling Center includes four professional school
counselors, a part-time career counselor, an office manager, a
registrar, and student counseling interns. Students are assigned a
counselor based on the student's last name. Each counselor works with
students in acquiring guidance competencies that form the foundation for
their next steps educationally and occupationally. They assist students
in developing realistic educational and career plans based on a clear
understanding of themselves, their needs, interests, skills, and the
realities and possibilities of the worlds of education and work.

the interest from many surrounding businesses. The purpose of partnering
is to encourage the businesses and their employees to help our school in
ways such as mentoring students, tutoring students, serving as speakers,
allowing students to shadow a worker in a particular job area, etc.
Site Based Management
Centennial High School has implemented a site based management model led
by the Building Leadership Team.
